VIA (Venezuelans and Immigrants Aid) came to me with a clear purpose: redesign their outdated website and make it easier for users to find the information and support they need. Their old site was difficult to navigate, not mobile-friendly, and didn’t reflect the growth or impact of the organization.
From the beginning, it was clear that this project wasn’t just about giving the site a new look. We needed to create a platform that would empower users, many of whom are immigrants searching for guidance and resources. I collaborated closely with VIA’s team to rethink the site structure, simplify access to information, and design a more welcoming and action-oriented experience.
One of the biggest challenges in this project was organizing a large and diverse amount of content. VIA has a very active YouTube channel filled with helpful videos for immigrants, and we wanted to use the website as a central hub where all those resources could live in an organized and accessible way.
On top of that, VIA runs multiple programs and sends regular newsletters, all of which needed to be promoted clearly across the site. Balancing these different types of content while keeping the site clean, easy to navigate, and user-friendly added another layer of complexity to the project.
Another priority for me was making sure the site was simple to manage. I always aim to build a backend that allows non-technical users to take full control of their content. For VIA, that meant setting up flexible sections so their team could easily upload new resources, update events, or add translated content without needing help from a developer.
